What about the Bible

We believe the Bible is God’s inspired word and that as such it contains all that we need to know for life and godliness.  Therefore, we study the Bible regularly in Bible Classes, and encourage every person to study at home.

What about the Church?

As a congregation of the Body of Christ, our position is to stand firm on the Word of God and uplift Christ who promised to draw all men unto Himself.  We seek to duplicate as much as possible the pattern for the church revealed in the Bible.  We actively seek to restore the New Testament church in its original form.  We want to be Christians only, laying aside names, creeds, and beliefs introduced by man.  The family of God at Parrish is a loving, honest, and sincere group of Christians who simply want to please God by living according to His Word.

How does one join your church?

Acts 2:47 says that the Lord adds the saved to His family.  There is no process to join “our church” other than to be a Christian.  The question is:  How do I become a Christian?

The Bible teaches that a person comes to Christ by hearing God’s word (Rom 10:17), by believing in Christ (Heb 11:6; Mk 16:16), by repenting of his sins (Acts 2:38; 3:19), by stating that faith (Rom 10:9-10), and by immersion into Christ for the remission of his sins (Mk 16:16, Acts 2:38, 22:16).  This immersion, according to the Bible, is a burial in water in the likeness of the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ (Rom 6:3-11).  By this obedient faith you become a child of God in Christ (Gal 3:26-27), and God adds you to his family and you become our brother or sister in Christ.

What about living as a Christian?

We believe that a Christian is to be faithful in worship (Heb 10:24, 25), and that God expects daily, lifelong faithfulness from his children (Rev 2:10).  This includes taking care of those in need and living a pure life (Jas 1:27).  This includes being an example (Matt 5:14ff) and focusing your life more on the spiritual and not as much on the physical (2 Cor 4:16-18).  This is what Paul calls walking by faith (2 Cor 5:7).

What is your mission?

We serve a God who is forgiving, and desires all men to come to Him (2 Pet 3:9).  And as the Bride of His son we share His compassion for the lost.  In the words of Revelation 22:17, “And the Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let him who hears say, “Come!” And let him who thirsts come.  Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely.”

Do you have a “Statement of Faith?”

While we do not follow any creed but the Bible, the following matters of faith are some we think are important to help others understand how we follow the teaching of God’s Word:

We believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16 NKJV.

We believe that Jesus is the Christ, that He is both God and man, John 1:1; 8:24

We believe that God is one and that the Godhead is made up of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Colossians 2:9; Matthew 3:16-17.

We believe that the Gospel is the power of God to save mankind. The Gospel is the Death, Burial, and Resurrection of Christ as defined by Paul in 1 Corinthians 15:1-5.

We believe that God will take vengeance out on those who do not know God and on those who do not obey the Gospel. 2 Thessalonians 1:7-9.

We believe that Romans 6:1-6, 17-18 teaches that one obeys the Gospel in re-enacting the Death, Burial, and Resurrection of Christ, and that obeying that form of doctrine delivers us and sets us free from sin.

We believe this obedience gives us the assurance of a home in heaven as we walk in the Light of God. 1 John 1:7; 5:13

We believe that as Christians we should assemble as the Church to fellowship and to worship God. Hebrews 10:14-15, Acts 2:42

We believe that worship in Spirit and in Truth defines both our attitude and our actions. Our attitude when in worship to God is one of joyful, reverent fear, realizing God's greatness, goodness, love, and severity. God establishes what we do in worship in His word. When we assemble together to worship we:

Pray -- 1 Timothy 2:8, Acts 2:42
Study God's Word -- Acts 20:7; 2:42
Take Communion (The Lord's Supper) -- Acts 20:7; 2:42
Give -- 2 Corinthians 9:7
Sing (a capella) -- James 5:13, Hebrews 2:12, Ephesians 5:18-20, Colossians 3:16-17

We believe that God wants you to be a part of His family. If you would like more information send your name, address, phone number, and email address to Parrish Church of Christ.
